There is sure to be a lot going on in the background that led to Friday's attack.
An oppressed Islamic minority ... attempted illegal entry to Australia by an unaccompanied minor ... rounds of unaccompanied off shore detention ... bridging visa ... marginal and uncertain living conditions in mainland Australia ... no family or close friend support ... not unsurpiding developing mental health issues.
Was returning him to Myanmar for ongoing persecution the answer? How about that he still be in off shore detention? Or how about there was an effective social safety net here in Australa (I don't know there wasn't)?
Imo it is easy to be dogmatic after the event, but "we" do own some of the precedent circumstances.
