I have been reading a book abut the US deficit. The US dollar, and the stock market and everything else, are going down. The timing can't be known - this week, this year, next year - ten years, but the conclusion is inevitable. The US has an unsustainable debt and is all but bankrupt. It would only take one major bond holding Asian country to change policy to cascade a near complete collapse of the US $.

The contrarian view from the economists I am reading is ditch the dollar, sell thehouse that is overpriced and on an extremely high mortgage, clear the debt and buy gold. Lots of Gold. And then some more.

I generally find your posts interesting and informed, but the views you expressed on this thread were surprising to say the least.
