First, I wouldn't say "inevitable defeat". As you well know I was calling here on HC for Abbott to be replaced as leader almost 2 years ago. A good man who wasn't a leader. Having said that, would he have done worse than MT at the July election? Unlikely. TA had a landslide win against Rudd. He is a strong campaigner. MT is a dud leader and a worse campaigner. Turned a huge majority into one by the hair on his testicles.
TA would gave hammered Shorten on TURC, carbon pricing, Labor's atrocious record in office. Turnbull? Who knows? He said nothing, asleep for the whole campaign. I believe TA would gave done better than this dud.
