Three is no eviudence that strict gun laws reduce homicides. It depends on the type of people who have the firearms. There are plenty of countries with liberal gun laws and low homicide rates, Switzerland being an obvious one.

In Australia it is mostly the criminals who now own the guns in our cities where gun crime is occurring. Where they can't afford to buy firearms on the huge black market, the are using other weapons like knives, machetes and axes.
