" why would someone want to post an article 6 years old...."

Double Blinded, Randomized controlled trials are the altar of truth for medical research.

To date, there has only been 2 blinded, randomized controlled trials (the most rigorous type of experiment) of the Fermiscan process, the first one was the original study by Dr James using ONLY 12 patients, which was positive proof of the test,

and the other one which I posted earlier:

    http://jmg.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/37/4/297

which was a much LARGER (i.e less chance of error) blinded, randomized controlled trial involving 108 patients, showing no correlation at all between breast cancer and hair x-ray diffraction patterns.

If I have to decide based on the 2 conflicting trials above, I will have to say that Fermiscan is not an accurate test, UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.

"Subsequent research has confirmed the process with patents held for all major regions."

I did a search on pubmed and medline (comprehensive index for biomedical researchers) and have found no other published trials on this matter. Fermiscan alluded to "subsequent research" but it would be helpful if they actually pointed out what those are.

The reason why published trials are so important is that public health measures(and any medical test or treatment for that matter) MUST be based on evidence, and it must be evidence that has been put through the grinder that is the modern process of peer review and criticism via dissemination through respectable scientific journals.

Personally, given that if the FERMISCAN process actually works, it would represent a huge paradigm shift in cancer screening and diagnosis, I would have expected much more published research and trials on it in the medical literature....the silence is deafening?

Basically, I am still sceptical till more evidence is forthcoming. That said, when the Aussie scientist who won the nobel prize in Medicine announced that stomach ulcers are caused by a bacteria called H. Pylori, every one in the medical community called him crazy! =)
