I agree partly with that and numbersyn's comments re public choosing the president, however the other factor that concerned a lot of older Australians at the time and I think will again be concerned as to the lack of understanding around the wording they used to change the Constitution.
turnbull at the time just thought that Australians were dumb and it would succeed on his say so - hmmm a bit like what he does as PM
