I watched the majority of his speech which was a history lesson on what went wrong in 1990 and what he thinks should be done next time - very much I know best so rudd like.

He acknowledged that the people did not trust the politicians chosing the President and in the regard advocated for a plebiscite so the people can decide the model to actually chose the President - popular vote or politicians vote.

Perhaps I missed it however he did not say much about the people not understanding the changes to the constitution, however he did have a whinge about the campaign against the republic which went something like -if you dont understand it vote no.

Another thrust not to tackle it again until QE11 have left the throne as she is too popular and most Australian have only known her as the monarch.

And yep that would probably leave him able to have a tilt at the job which was in my opinion his main thrust in1990.
