I think you are missing my point, my point is that some mass is lost during the recycling, But the largest loss is from wear during the products life.
This is just one example, but teeth and blades on mining, farming and construction equipment can lose up to 50% of their mass during their life, Building products also lose a lot of mass over their life also, so even if 100% of products were recycled before the stuff even gets back to the smelter there is less of it, some is then lost in production of new steel, and then you have a growing world economy, that doesn't just want to replace 1 car with 1 car, it wants 1.2cars made for each that is scrapped.
check out this video, its just one example of steel lost to wear, there are 1000's more examples.
