First tpg has been protected by the accc in australia and that is y it has been able to grow and pay back debt so fast.
Now, no more accc protection as nbn nears completion,in fact the opposite. So a completly different business model which will change above abilities.
So u have tpg 'entering' singapore mobile market, while tpg will b rolling out its 4g network, its very powerful competition will b rolling out their 5g network.
So in a couple of years what will b obsolete?.Well for sure the handsets will b if the customers want to use the 5g network.
Of course 4g will not b obsolete ,but the competition pricing for 4g will b strong.
Imo probably like australia, the regulator will not declare 5g because it obviously destroys investment.
But that leaves 4g as the secondery low margin network which imo all players will b expecting ie singtel,starhub/huawei and m1.
I'm not suggesting its a mistake for tpg,but imo its ,as posted, going to b a wild ride.
Then u have tpg entering australian mobile especially if they get some 700 spectrum.Same story as above just alot more expensive ie just the spectrum ie singapore 60 mgz of 4g (i'm guessing 700 or 900) spectrum tpg bought for $105m,in australia 30 mgz of 700 spectrum coming up for auction will at least b sold for $1b plus ,do the maths on that. Then the 4g network has to b built and if tpg builds it ,it will b completed same time approx as tls's 5g network? probably same voda and optus.c above re 4g pricing pressure.
I repeat,i believe tpg is doing what they must, but i repeat imo its not going to b a stroll in the park ie especially the timing ie conversion by major mobile players from 4g to 5g completion same time as tpg's 4g and imo no way will accc declare tls's 5g network metro or regional any time soon.
again, can't say gl to holders as i'm a tls holder and will b interested to c how the australian spectrum is sold.
ps tpg got alot of protection from accc because tls owned the fixed monopoly, now the govt owns the fixed monopoly and unlike the fixed monopoly there r 3 mobile network owners in australia so maybe less protection from accc ?.hmmm
