I have not studied the Koran and heaven forbid if I should even for academic reasons but countless high profile opinions are of the view that there are specific reference with the use of violence to stamp their authority if each word is taken verbatim. If these references are to be followed without question then 'real muslims' would be those on the extreme side of islam practitioners.
This is not a fight between moderate and extreme muslims, the Islamic society do not tolerate questioning of the faith hence inspiration of holiness comes from the Koran. Look around you, even in the so called moderate muslin country of Indonesia we have perverse adaption of views towards minorities and the problem with the Gov of Jakarta accused of insulting Islam. The 'Lest Majeste' of religion Thailand style that do not respect any boundary of decency or laws of ANY developed and evolved human civilisation.
You cannot debate a Jihadist because it is their way or highway to death. Hence I am really sad for our long haired nose ring tat tree hugger leftie whom it will be my pleasure to offer as the sacrificial lamb in order to keep both side happy! It is not compatible with society we are now living under. The moderates who don't take some aspects of their religion that serious are under silence of fear and they can only 'toe the party line' or face their own society 'death'. Meantime they are staunch promoter of the freedom our society have so heartlessly provided them with that they push the boundary of decency with Sharia, Burkha, mutilation, 4 wives, halal cert and countless other proposals because it is in their democratic right. The problem will not be solved by pussy footing around sensitivities.
Unfortunately we see the rise of the far right which is also worrying because none of these extremes views whether being pushed there by current laws or politics will make social cohesion the ultimate aim of what multiculturalism was set out to achieved in the first place. I don;t offer even a resemblance of solution in this complex relationship of old meeting new ways of living and behaving. Maybe religious apartheid the only way?
