MANILA (Dow Jones)--The Philippine government Thursday gave the green-light to
Australia-listed Lafayette Mining Ltd. (LAF.AU) to resume commercial mining operations
its Rapu Rapu polymetallic mine south of Manila.
Lafayette's mining operations were halted in late 2005 following two cyanide
spills. Commercial operations remained suspended throughout 2006, with typhoon damage,
mainly to housing facilities, hampering resumption efforts.
Lafayette's request to lift the order stopping their operations "is
granted," Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Angelo Reyes told a news
briefing.
