    Who said you cant make Capital Gains on Australian stocks ?
    The simple fact is that it is tax-efficient from the shareholders point of view to receive franked dividends (unlike the US for instance) therefore companies here pay higher dividends.

    As for dividends, a CBA shareholder who bought at $5.40 in 1991, now receives a 100% (gross) dividend yield on his original investment *each year*, a yield which rates to rise going forward.

    This hasnt stopped CBA delivering a 1,000% Capital Gain as well.
