Survived in the harshest most isolated country in the world.
We of European descent had the benefit of communication and trade right across Europe, and Asia and able to exchange the best of advances in knowledge. The Brits were able to bring that here and had the means (ships to continue that communication and trade).
Bunny if your forebears were picked up by a typhoon long ago and dumped on Terra Australis they probably would be grateful for the survival skills of the indigenous population because nothing else could save them. A harsh isolated land mass that wasn’t even discovered by the Europeans with all their advantages, for thousands of years.
