Yeah China certainly is different from the USA. Its been called the sleeping bear due to its large population but it is only recently it has started to rouse. With such a huge population the majority of which are poor requires a strict disciplined Govt to keep events in hand so individualism is some way of for the majority but for the new middle class it is already happening. Some form of a command and control capitalist model is what seems to be working for the time being. Not sure we really get to call the USA on much at all in reality, they are the big dog and by and large get what they want. But the big problem is that China is the economic power that powers Australia and that is of no concern to the USA.

Doesn't change the fact they want to control trade links, which have not been hampered by such controls (outside pirates) within the most recent ages. In my mind the best way to affect trade is through demand vs supply, call me a kooky capitalist in that regard.
