What I am saying is that a lot of things don't seem to ring true about W.D Gann. Yes there may have been a problem in the relationship between father and son - maybe enough to poison John Gann's mind. I originally read his claims in a book by Alexander Elder referring to an interview he did with John Gann.

I think it is most likely that W.D's money was made from the courses he sold (some of which supposedly cost as much as a house in those days) and from his property development projects.

I do think his esoteric stuff is so much mumbo jumbo but his contribution to trend trading should not be underestimated as his swing trading system, as I understand it, has had a major influence in the development of charting and technical analysis. Any breakout system today probably has at least part of its ancestry in Gann's swing trading methods.

I would recommend his swing trading and money management methods as a sound approach to trading for anyone looking to get into TA.

He also had a good understanding of cycles and their use in estimating possible changes in directions. Many markets eg property do follow broad cycles of investment. They are never hard and fast but they can be a guide.
