Domain, the US auditors reports leave no doubt that Iraq has become a financial milking cow for Halliburton and other contractors who are making obscene profits there and delivering very little. It did not start out that way but that is what is happening now.
As to the continuing violence...most of that seems to be sectarian and is really an internal civil war probably with both sides being supported by neighbouring countries depending on which branch of Islam is dominant.
Al Quaida have a few operatives there also as they do in many countries, but to suggest we are primarilly fighting Al Qaida or JI terrorists in Iraq is unrealistic and really quite ridiculous. Al Quaida is concentrated in Pakistan and Afghanistan and JI operates mainly in Indonesia and the southern Philippines.
The lack of major terrorist attacks in the West in recent years would be more the result of increases in security measures than a decrease in the numbers of terrorists who would like to kill us and certainly nothing to do with Iraq.
