Somebody in your religion came up with the idea that we do not have an immortal soul or spirit, so you then have no way of understanding the teachings of Jesus because they were given to elevate the human spirit.
----
Again I ask: 'Where did you get that idea from Darkroom'? The immortality of the soul concept that originated with Satan's lie (Genesis 3:4) clashes with the clearly expressed statement in the Bible.
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. KJV.
The KJV was used by Henry Grew, George Stetson, and George Storrs in their writings and lectures to expose Christendom's promotion of pagan ideas. This was in the 1800's ahead of Russell's time.
Of course for those that accept the findings of science rather than being influenced by false religion's superstitious nonsense, will have no trouble accepting the Bible's teaching. At death, no part of an individual lives on. Humans have no superiority over animals in that regard. Eccl 3:18-20
