I quite agree siriusco. What is even sweeter is that one of the figureheads of this apparent awakening is David Hicks. Hicks represents in microcosm all that is wrong with the Howard Government.
Say what you will about Hicks; guilty or innocent he demonstrates the total amoral, whatever it takes approach of John Howard. The rule of law, international conventions, common human decency in the face of torture etc are all subjugated in the name of political expediency.
The Australian public has at last woken up to the fact that their own assumptions about the right to protection under the law have been undermined as Howard has played fast and loose with truth.
