the doctrine of most sects is that you can only loose salvation if you make the wrong choice after hearing the message.

That is not what the Bible teaches Whereu. Destruction for many will come because they attack God's people. Read it for yourself in any translation you choose. - 2 Thess 1:6. This letter is a follow up to the one that spoke of those being deluded. It is because they are misled to the point of actually thinking if only they can stamp out this message then they will be safe. How delusional! Sort of 'Shoot the messenger' mentality.
Notice who those being destroyed include. There are basically 2 groups. "Those that do not know God and those that do not obey the good news" - 2 Thess 1:8. So a refusal to hear the message wont work. Neither will understanding the message but refusing to respond. Check it for yourself and tell me if I have it wrong.
