Forgo some of that, live with the parents and start growing a deposit. When you can afford to by, renting out spare rooms will get that mortgage down a lot quicker.

Anyway, Taylor was supposedly helping me out telling me I can get cheap business loan without property as security. You may be right that he/she is in their 20's as that would account for the lack of knowledge. I think Taylor should listen to us older types who have knowledge and experience rather that pretend he/she knows more than us.

If someone was truly determined to enter the real estate market, is it really hard? How much money would you need to scrape to together at the bottom end of the (Melbourne) market? $250k or so?

Anyone on an average income should be able to wing that. Even easier for a couple.
