and in every crowded footpath??????????????? possible - but very difficult to make work - and, you have to think of heavy vehicles, not only cars -------- most trucks could run down bollards unless technology told the truck to stop.



I would stop it by -------

a. having people like this in mental facilities - people that clearly are not controlled by the usual means - blokes like this and Martin Bryant. Very clearly - many people over the years saw this bloke and trouble coming at the same time in the same place - it was just where and when - previous teachers, police, relatives etc. etc. - there are quite a lot of social misfits out there that have potential danger written all over them ------------- why wait until they do something? ---------- look at our history ------------ we have THOUSANDS of victims from mental cases like this - this case alone ------ there are several dead and under 50 injured one way or another - but, the reality is that there are hundreds of victims from this alone - traumatized families and friends who will always be effected -

what is the cost of that to society?? -- One of the reasons (only 1) of closing down mental institutions was to save money - well, - if one counts up the real cost of this incident alone - I think it would be many 10's of millions of dollars.

b. pay the price of some innocent bystanders being killed or injured in pursuits OUTSIDE the main CBD - ie. ok in suburbs and definitely on highways - and, when you catch people like this --------- LOCK them away for a LONG LONG time and NEVER let them drive again.

with luck - in 10 to 20 years this can never happen - because we will all have self drives and self drives will never do this.



this in no way changes my mind on that they could easily stop him once he was in the CBD (I don't believe you can safely stop him in the CBD) --------- he should not have been allowed to get there.

Indeed - I don't think he should have been out free in society in the first place ---------- clearly he should have been in a secure mental facility.
