Hi gdbeech. most occupations have some organisation to represent them and lobby in their interests. Unions are the same.

What causes the drama is when some union officials abuse their power or engage in corrupt practices. Unions in pure ethical terms were essential in the past but as economies improved their influence began to languish except in areas were workers tended more to be able to be exploited. Its unfortunate that the crooked ones tend to taint the good work of many union representatives and worker delegates. Bad eggs of course can also exist in association lobby groups for corporations, business and commerce association and yes bodies that represent accountants interests. We have company directors that misappropriate company funds and political party chiefs who steal the party money. Its not necessary to go into the detail. I am certain you would be aware of these goings on.

Unions are legitimate, corruption is not. I recall even John Howard emphasising the legitimacy of unions just not abuse of power or corruption by officials.

    cheers
