I don't understand ACX target market, and I am not claiming to, I was simply giving opinion as a regular user.
I don't work on Billion dollar projects, however I do work on dozens of $100m projects each year, as well nearly a hundred smaller projects.
And perhaps it is only the Big projects that Aconex are looking for, as they understand the benefit that their system brings.
However, to ignore the smaller market is always dangerous, because it allows your competitors to get a foothold.
As for Dropbox and Sharefile not being specific for the use... correct! however that does not stop people from finding a way to make it work... and that is what I was trying to get at - that the Aconex system is too inconvenient for a large portion of the smaller market that they would rather use something not even designed for it.
Perhaps Aconex can do a LITE version that is better suited for dumb users?
As for Automated processing in construction... for my specific industry, that has been around for nearly 2 decades already - and with very limited success. The investment cost is too high, and the bloke down the road will always do it cheaper.
The industry does not prioritize quality any more, it is all How Cheap and How Fast.
Then they will try and screw the Top quality guys down to meet the price of the cheap backyard bloke.
So if Aconex are targeting only the big Billion Dollar projects... then I would agree that my opinion is irrelevant and likely incorrect.
As for the comment regarding the File in 2 categories - 2 files cannot have the same name, and the same drawing should not have 2 different names. It really should be as simple as creating a specific category for that Discipline of work.
The comment regarding incomplete drawings - on paper, on contract, it all clearly says only work from FOR CONSTRUCTION drawings.
However on paper and on contract, you also need to meet the scheduled dates.
You can't do both.
And just because you have the paper trail to argue the point... doesn't mean you have the resources to do it.
Have the builder owing you $500k, and then try telling him that you cannot complete the next area because the drawings say "For Tender" - then see how many months your payment is delayed because of administrative excuses.
There is the way the Building Industry should be (including things like Aconex, and Building and Construction Industry laws)... and then there is the way the Industry actually is... and that's reality.
ACX is not my cup of tea, but as a regular user, I was intrigued when I seen it pop up this morning on the most talked about list. So thought to have a chat and hear others opinions.
Either way, best of luck to all Investors!
