Covering it up.
Moving alleged perpetrators on to offend elsewhere.
Shutting up people who reported their suspicions.
The Catholic mafia inside police forces who protected their friends outside the force.
Of course they were different times and even parents would hide the fact that their children had been violated or may not even believe them as they trusted the church and other institutions.
