The conclusion is that Lib's are VERY concerned at the threat Rudd poses to them holding power at the next election. It was only a matter of time that dirt, ANY dirt, on Rudd would need to be exposed to gain mileage and bridge the gap. Afterall, the so called "honeymoon period" for Rudd has been a little bit more than just that. It is of obvious concern to the Liberal party that Rudd could possibly win and so out come the hand grenades.
I am no pollster but I mix with many people who in the past voted Liberal (and in particular at the last election) and they had decided to dump the Lib's many months ago and with Rudd at the helm it has enforced their thinking. A day of lunching with a convicted criminal by Rudd has not changed the minds of the average voter who see this "dirt on Rudd" for exactly what it is.
It is very possible that the events of last week may have a detrimental affect on the Lib's.
