The water is not a problem - the Central decline dewatered the area down to below 238 metres, but without affecting bores in the town.
Citigold reported that flow rates into the old workings were the equivalent of 9 litres per second - one modern electric pump can pump 25 litres per second. They have a pipeline that takes the mine water southwest to thwir processing plant, making them independent of drinking water supplied to Charters Towers.
