"DESPITE his burgeoning reputation as a stock market high-roller, associates of former minister Santo Santoro do not believe he is a wealthy share trader.
They said yesterday that Senator Santoro, who quit the Howard ministry on Friday after failing to declare 72 share deals, was a small-time market player.
"He's certainly no millionaire," said one well-placed Liberal Party source. "He might have multiple holdings but they must all be small holdings worth a few thousand dollars here and there."
Senator Santoro would have received a significant pension or lump sum after losing his seat of Clayfield in the Queensland parliament in 2001 after four terms in office. For more than a year after this, when he was appointed to a casual Senate vacancy, he ran his own consulting business, which did well."
Are the boys covering up for him? 72 companies at a few thousand each? what an odd strategy.
