I find the system where the FWC set wages and rates for various industries very strange. It would be better to just focus on enforcing the minimum hourly wage framework and then let employers set their own wages at or above the legal minimum. Thus employers and workers, via supply and demand, will set the price for weekend work, subject to the minimum hourly wage.
If the result is that weekend work is not paid better than week work, employees can vote with their feet and move to industries where weekend work is not required.
