Its Trumps own side that is putting this into focus. There is obviously cause for real concern.
The implications are that Trump people may have been conspiring with the Russians before
the election when Obama was still President on issues such as sanctions and that arising from that the Russians leaked material to try and damage the Democrat candidate. On legality if they were bartering on sanctions when they were not in government/power that apparently is illegal. It also raises the spectre of what was being agreed to in commercial terms. Were they trying to line their pockets in terms of Russian trade in exchange for removing sanctions? One of the Trump team has already fallen on his sword and if a special prosecutor or Committee is appointed by the Republicans to investigate the extent of what happened and who was involved more could follow. Of course the big question is what did Trump know? Was he involved?
There is a view expressed by some in the USA that what may have happened here is far more serious than what occurred with Pres Richard Nixon during the 1973 Watergate affair.
