Thanks MillNoLess77. That is very informative for this forum and bit by bit we are establishing a picture that we didn't have a clue about a few weeks ago. From reading the Terry Family story they also appear to be very nice people, so, one would think that they have a reasonable reason to involve the Land Court.
They are asking for "compensation", so, that distinctly implies that they have, or would, "suffer some injury" to their land or business.

"The matters that must be considered by the Court are set out in s 85(7) of the MRA which provides that an owner of land is entitled to compensation for:
“(a) deprivation of possession of the surface of land of the owner;
(b) diminution of the value of the land of the owner or any improvements thereon;
(c) diminution of the use made or which may be made of the land of the owner or any improvements thereon;
(d) severance of any part of the land from other parts thereof or from other land of the owner;
(e) any surface rights of access;
(f) all loss or expense that arises; as a consequence of the grant or renewal of the mining claim.”

Note that the action is being brought by three of the Terry family while the Cobbold Gorge Tours business is apparently run by Simon and his wife Gaye. That would "suggest" that the compensation is not being sought about the tour business, just the land.
I hope that that is the case as it should be much easier to determine any compensation on such a large piece of land.

Thanks everyone for their "two bobs worth" it all adds up and is taking away much of the scepticism that was resulting from the lack of ANY information. Even without still knowing the basis of the claim, I'm feeling MUCH more comfortable about the outcome and looking forward to the continuation of good input from all posters.

Accessing copies of the relevant documents from the Registry is limited only to those who are "parties to the proceedings", I'm asking if being a shareholder of Laneway Resources Limited qualifies, after all, there would be no Laneway Resources Limited without its shareholders. I'll post my result.
