Drove from Melbourne to Albury last week. I passed a crew of those grass cutting tractors working on the highway. There must have been five or six big slashers going and a heap of support/signage vehicles. It was in the middle of f-ing nowhere, between Benalla and Wang I think. Not only were they slashing the middle of the road, but about a 15-25 metre strip from the side of the road to the farmers fence. WHY? Surely just run a strip down the side of the road if you really have to. Even that makes little sense since there is a full sized, clearly marked asphalt shoulder in case of emergency. Why does the entire Hume Highway need to have 15+ metres of lawn on each side? The answer, of course, is it doesn't!

We, the average taxpayers, are getting robbed blind! Paying for so many things that are not needed. Anyone who thinks it is incompetence is kidding themselves. It is straight out corruption IMO. On a massive scale.
