Justis, I am not disputing what you say... just asking the following.....
I assume you mean the hatred of Muslims.........
Did we have the hatred of "wogs", as you put it, back when you were a kid...?
It's possible I live in a dream world about this. I am 60 now and grew up in a working class area of north Brisbane. My neighbourhood and school friends were kids from many European countries as well as kids born here. I was active in many sports and social activities. I do not recall a single occasion where any particular kid was picked on other than for stealing stuff.
I loved staying over at friends homes whose families were from Europe. It was like having a whole different way of life shown to me.
As I said, maybe I have lived in a dream world regarding this issue. And I am truly sorry to hear that you did suffer that type of hatred.
I should be clear that I no longer believe we live in that utopian Australia that I experienced growing up. This thread alone leaves no room for doubt as to the level of pure hatred that many Australians now harbour for immigrant families living in our country. I make no observation as to the reasons, rights or wrongs of this situation. I simply lament this is what we have become.
After living and working in UK, Europe and South America for 15 years, I have always believed in and advocated multiculturalism in Australia. While the economic benefit to Australia of immigration is and will continue to be unarguable, it turns out I could not have been more wrong in my expectations about a more ethnically diverse contribution to our overall society and our development as people. Reading this thread, there is no escaping that we are just haters.
