Direct carrier billing with regard to MBE is where people pay a weekly fee (around $5 a week in Australia) to access subscription services on mobile devices and the cost is added to their phone bill (either pre-paid or post-paid). MBE's point of difference is that they advertise these services on various websites to attract new users. Obviously this costs money and these costs are incurred to grow the customer base, particularly overseas. As we've seen recently they've gone at it too hard in the short term (for future growth) which has given the impression that the business is barely profitable whereas if they had wound back the marketing spend the profit figures could have been substantially higher. This is the point that the market is missing at the moment, in its infinite wisdom!
