The reason people are not joining unions like they used to is because Labor is entrenched in all States and their legislation is looking after workers to such a degree that people feel they don't need to pay for the protection of a union. There are exceptions to this of course. The federal governments new work laws designed to over-ride the states laws have not fully kicked in yet but as they bite harder people will likely start looking to the unions again. The current economic boom and full employment also means for most workers their conditions are safe for the time being. That will change dramatically when the next recession arrives. Dave R.
