I saw a news feature (might have been BBC) regarding Congalese villages who are setting up make shift mines and using basic tools and fingers to dig up the Colbalt and sell it to Chinese intermediaries. Many of the workers used are children in exhausting/dangerous work.

Whilst I'm not the strongest ESG/SRI investor it did give me some comfort to know I'm investing in a proper mine that while not good for the environment isn't exploiting child labour (that I'm aware of). I wish the government would invest some/more of the royalties into education and not their own pockets.
