Ok...let's forget Japan as an example....they have many people.

How about then for starters....Denmark, Singapore, Sweden, Norway to name a few.....all with about 4 million people except for Norway which has nine million, all which enjoy a higher standard of living, and are far more educated, have nothing like our natural wealth, yet manage to create wealth not debt, as our perennial current account deficits attest to.....where oh where would we be without all the natual wealth in WA and QLD I wonder??

Far as I can see, we are world leaders comparatively in the sporting arenas....and not much else.

And I love my sport, but sport doesn't mean an awful in the end.

The fact remains that per capita we are one of the lowest investors in research and development in the OECD....and as long as that remains the status quo, we will always lag behind.

The patriotism displayed, great as it is, does not cloud that FUNDAMENTAL issue.

And it certainly gives our capable people an uneven footing, and little hope for our children to be able to compete in the future.
