It's basically a pre-cursor to rigging up. Before the rig arrives on site, a cellar is dug & a conductor pipe which is basically a largish diameter pipe are installed.

Once the Drill Rig is set up over this, they will do a safety inspection. Then drill out a Rathole & Mousehole for the Kelly & Drill pipe and then start drilling the top hole section through the permafrost. The process when drill bit first hits the topsoil is referred to as 'Spudding'.

Next they will drill a 12.25" dia tophole & then run First casing & subsequently install a BOP & do a formation integrity test (FIT) & then drill ahead.

The borehole dia will narrow down (as does the casing size) till they reach the top of the HRZ.


April onwards or once they spud, u r basically looking at the following Well sections at IW#2 :


1) 30" dia hole drilled to xx ft, set 16" casing

2) Drill 12.5" hole to 3xxx', set 9" casing (this will take them outside the Permafrost into fresh strata)

3) Drill 8.5" hole to xxxxx' & set 7" casing above the HRZ, run logs

4) Drill 6.125" hole to TD. Run wireline logs

5) Set 4.5" liner.

6) Choose test interval for fraccing.

Steps 1 to 3 are basically fast drilling. Things start to slow down as they get deeper.

So once they cross 10500' that's when things will get interesting in the geo's shack  over the shakers when the drill cuttings come to surface with any shows. Luckily this time they have logs from IW#1 as a guide, rather then use data from Bush Fed-1, to the south.

Until then its just a boring tophole section which has got to be drilled out first before they reach the primary target. Hope this helps. If it doesn't, then just refer slide-9 from the recent preso. Will swing by later. Safe drilling.
