It's pointless blaming others for the situation, that wont change anything.
What needs to be changed is the system that gives the general population the ability to change the government every 3 - 4 years but allows minority groups to lobby and influence that government as often as they want.

That's why it's so frustrating. The government doesn't hear us because we are silent as far as they are concerned but the minority groups with the money or enthusiasm to use the media and the system are pounding at their doors and that's what they respond to.

This is not true democracy and because it's fundamentally flawed our free society is being destroyed.

We have the ability, through forums like this, to work out a better way that reflects the majority and can remove special status for minority groups. Religious, political, corporate etc.
The only way to implement such fundamental change would be through a new political party being elected with a mandate to carry it out. Not an extreme party but one that must appeal so much it gets elected with a strong majority to allow free passage of constitutional change.

That or we're stuffed.
