re: cromag - permian extinction I don't believe I will know when I'm dead, much the same as I haven't ever noticed being knocked unconscious until after I've woken up.

Cromag,
Not quite. An example........a woman prgnant with a child.......for some reason the baby goes through some trauma.........or god forbid worse.
The baby is subsequently born and has problems which may be with it for the rest of it's life.
However, it does not remember the trauma that it may have suffered in it's mothers womb.
So, for those of us who are alive today....it may be akin to a child in the womb.........
And being born........might be akin to a new life that takes place at death??????
Interesting concept, no?
But what if there is an afterlife? Just because you may not think there is one, does not mean there isn't one.
Who knows what goes through the fetus's mind even in full term?
But one thing for sure....It doesn't know what it's in for.
We might all be in the "fetus stage" right in the here and now.............except we can communicate our ideas with others whereas a fetus in the womb can't.
That's why we can progress our ideas.....even as far as postulating there may be an afterlife.........
But a fetus will always be just that.....a fetus.
