Cromag - On a cerebral note to science and clear thinking - the acceptance of "fossil" fuels as derived from organic matter is an interesting one. Although it is simply accepted as a fact that this is where fossil fuels came from, when the original theory was espoused there were arguments that there couldnt possibly have been enough biomass in the history of the planet to produce the worlds then known volumes of oil etc, anyway after some number crunching, realigning dates and more importantly coming to the conclusion that for much of the planets history very large amounts of biomass have been present (algae and rainforest) the argument was put to bed, and the theory accepted as fact.
Here's the rub, since then the 'known' reserves of just oil, are Hundreds of times greater - yes hundreds. But no-one ever revisits the theory.
I believe it goes to show that man has a predeliction towards certainty, and would rather not question the status quo - science is not for free thinkers.
The closed mind is as common in science as it is in religion (well nearly).
They mentioned that methane from volcanoes - where did the methane come from? - it cant be a fossil fuel coming from the mantle.
pb - food for thought thats all.
