re: the one to watch to robblack I think your skepticism is healthy, Rob, but unfounded in this case.

The placement at 6c was not made to mercenary clients of some West Perth broker, eager for the usual quick turn and a parting “up yours”.

Instead, the placement was made to parties associated with industry professionals Colin Marland and Malcolm Dick, both of whom join the Board of Swiftel effective as of today.

Mr Marland is the co-founder and board member of People Telecom, while Malcolm Dick is the co-founder and board member of Call Plus. These companies are the largest privately owned telecom service providers currently in Australia and New Zealand.

The difficulty for the typical punter on this site is that by and large his perspective is extremely short-term and non-strategic, and the temptation is always to ascribe that same view to others.

However, I think Marland and Dick, and the third in the triumvirate, Ryan O'Hare (the other principal of People Telecom), share with Chris Gale a much broader vision. Certainly they have already demonstrated extraordinary good will toward Swiftel by agreeing to a co-operative arrangement whereby Swiftel gains access to People Telecom’s 12,000 plus customers.

Somehow I don’t think the plans of players of this calibre end with a quick trading turn. Do you?
