Ridge, so why is methane so commonly associated with volcanoes ?- and not small amounts either.
So the theory goes the tectonic activity breaks the storage of the methane and thus it is released- of course to say anything else would be to fly in the face of an accepted scientific theory - house of cards and all that.
How come methane is held so effectively under rock- is it really conceivable that sedimentary rock forms over hundreds of thousands of years over the top of organic matter before it produces methane - or is it more likely that methane comes from below the rock and is captured there - same dilemna for oil. Remember that the fossil fuel theory predates the accurate geology we know today - it was based on pitch and brown coal etc.
Careful thinking - science is interlaced with theories built on a house of cards.
