A top scientist has strongly criticised predictions that there will be good rain in the next few months.
Doctor Graeme Pearman, who formerly headed the CSIRO's division of atmospheric research says there is a low probability of more rain soon.
Dr Pearman says he watched the predictions of rain late last year and again in recent weeks with concern.
"I think it's pretty irresponsible," he said.
"[Talking] to farmers and [being] affected by the emotional state they are in is very traumatic, but it is not an excuse for making projections and suggesting that we will get rain when it's not really scientifically possible to do that at this stage."
