Everyone will take different lessons from Marcus Padley's article. It seems he was much younger and chasing rumours rather than doing the research and understanding the company and the context in which the company was operating. So he made some pocket money and missed out on much larger returns. I think some of the traders in GXY will have the same experience. They are just trading the volatility in the SP and aren't much bothered with the company. Others understand the company and believe they can trade the peaks and dips, which is always easier to do in hindsight. For myself, I just kept buying for 12 months and am now content to see GXY's story play out over the next few years. During that time, I will gradually sell down 20% or so of my holding each year, perhaps retaining 40% for the long haul.
