Creationists DO NOT need this argument. I agree - this just is an insult to God. Fossils are the one subject "cutting edge" evolutionists do NOT want to discuss because despite Darwin's optimism the "fossil record" is an incredibly powerful witnes to billions of animals being buried quickly under masses of flowing water (you guessed it - a global flood), and is NOT consistent with the gentle piling up of billions of evolving dead things (that always seem to live in swamps in the text books) under slowly forming layers of sediments over countless eons. The Grand Canyon is a fabulous example (I can explain later if anyone cares to hear it). Note also the lamentable lack of ANY single transitional form (no, Archeopterix is a bird, no lizard bits) - there should be countless numbers of them! Note the apparent "explosion" of life followed by linear "speciation" not transition to different more complex forms. NO, fossils are not discussed in polite evolutionist circles. There isn't even a working mechanism for evolution - if all this happened through "trial and error" mutational changes, how did simple organisms develop into more complex ones (ie more genetic information) when there is no mechanism for any type of mutational change to ADD information - ALL forms of mutational/spontaneous genetic change involves either LOSS of genetic info or at best re-arrangement of it. Where does the extra info come from? And keep doing it so very often? It has never been observed and no mechanism is known or even postulated for it.
By the way, Creationist does not (and never has) = Flat Earther (myth). There are tens of thousands of PhD scientists around the world who accept 6 day Creation as fact (it is very much intellectually defendable). Most fields of science were "fathered" by Creationists. Why? because they were the ones who understood that the world was ordered (ie designed) and sought to understand that, contrary to the naturalists who saw the world as chaos.
Of the many methods used to "date" the earth only a small minority point to a "long" age (millions and billions of years) - most are consistent with a "young" earth (note even that term "young" here is determined by the success of the propaganda that makes us now just assume that several thousand years is "young" - sounds pretty old to me, I'm only 40! Examples include the degree of salt in the sea, the amount of helium in the atmosphere and others - all totally inconsistent with millions of years. All we hear about is the flawed dating techniques that use so many blind assumptions (usually assuming a much more "closed" system than it could possibly have been) because only they can give us the dates required for an impossible process to have the slightest chance of achieving even a fraction of the "random" development supposedly occuring. [Did you know that if you send a sample of rock to a dating lab, they ask you what date would you "like it to be"? Shouldn't need to ask that should they - just lets them know when to stop testing - ie when they get the approximately "right" date. ROFL]
Funny how now we hear about events wiping out "95%" of all life and "Mitochondrial Eve" that seem to be bringing "real" (LOL) science cringingly closer to what the Bible has said all along - ie global catastrophe and descent from one woman - oh sure the dates are diferent but the characters are the same!
Of course we can't accept any "design" in anything found in nature - but we will gladly listen for the slightest radio transmission that might show any sign of regularity and/or rhythmicity from space - Beep Beep Beep - (SETI program) because that would "prove" ET life!!! Ever looked at any natural object under high magnification - the more the magnification the greater the precision and breathtaking beauty - try putting a precision swiss watch under the microscope (exactly the opposite happens) but we don't look at a watch and wonder how amazing that all those parts just randomly came together like that, do we? We KNOW someone intelligent must have designed and made it.
Yessir, as I heard this evening on ABC radio from an eminent Professor, "over the course of time [a bloody huge amount of it] Evolution has come up with some very clever ways to make our minds work the way they do". Amen Brother - you have far greater faith in your "God" than I could ever have in mine if you can blindly accept that - No mechanism, no evidence, nothing.
More myths - the Yucatan meteorite theory is just that - pure speculation. Just happens that the shape of the bay looks about right. The geology isn't consistent with a high impact event anyway - but as long as you don't have to give away too many details people will believe you - just keep repeating it.
Time is affected by distortion of space (gravity). Clocks at sea level and at 5000ft run at different rates - weird but undeniably true - so much greater distortions in space can cause much greater distortion in time.
Summary: Evolution and "long ages" are just as much a "faith" as Biblical Creation - only difference is you need much much more faith! And you have got to "not let that Divine foot in the door" otherwise you might have to accept that you are answerable to a much higher "Authority" than your own selves (or even the Tax Office)
