IMO the Russians helped Trump into the White House because he was a better option for them than Hillary.
As to now, I am not sure but I can see two scenarios...
1) Trump has turned on his friend Putin. Neither are to be trusted so that is possible.
2) Trump needed a distraction from his policy failures at home. Russia was advised well before the US struck to give them time to get out of the way. The US then fired an impressive array of rockets which apparently did little damage other than put holes in an airfield.
Russia has condemned the US attack but so far it's only words. If words are all it ever is then scenario 2 is most likely and it's all just a setup to distract the US public from the relationship between Trump and Russia.
If the Russians take serious retaliatory action then scenario 1 is most likely.
