d_giff, warnie, whoever it is / was that misunderstands WHY a trading halt is called.

The information, whether negative or positive does not in itself require a trading halt.
The halts are called because discussions, or matters (or ANYTHING) are underway that would enable people to buy or sell shares with knowledge of upcoming matters that the market was unaware of.
As soon as these things go beyond directors of the company, a halt needs to be called to prevent inside trading.
That is the only reason for a halt rather than awaiting just a normal announcement - information is not ready for the market and could create insider buying or selling whilst being finalised.

Now, the uranium venture might well be spun off to pay for the completion of the oil and gas well commercialisation, or they may be setting up a joint venture, or....or.....or.......
Someone knows the intentions other than just the directors of GDN, therefore a halt is called until the market can be informed of the full details.

Does that help see why halts are called rather than waiting for announcements?
