We used to get the scraps from the fish n chip shops, all the little bits of crisp batter, chips or fish which escaped thru the wire cooking baskets, and were left floating in the vat, we would get 3 pence worth wrapped in newspaper....yummy
For the same cost we got a brown paper bag filled with a variety of broken biscuits, biscuits used to come to the grocer in 4 gallon size tins and there were always broken pieces left at the bottom.
