I agree about the younger generation toughening up.
When we bought our first house my wife and I both worked. Had one car, she took a bus to work. Never thought of buying coffee out, took lunch to work in a lunchbox. Very rarely went to a cheap take away for a meal. Serviced our own car, garden, clothes, etc. had a phone but internet hadn't been invented.
Then things got better when I got job at mill and we ....
