qld, is to oz, what spain, is to europe.

sunshine !

retirees don't want their t shirts cold and wet every time they go outside.

they want sunny golf days 24/7. they want beaches 24/7 they want cafes on the waters edge. etc etc.

what will eventually happen in qld is this.

when people start to get fed up with the qld coast humidity and the lack of water for their gdns, you'll see a lot of the newcomers, either moving inland, or those with enough dough left, going back south.

with recession biting and qld industry floundering (due to their 'industrial estates' being built in bejing), qld will be having a hard time,.

all this will lead to horrific pressures on house prices. houses are needed most where there is work. the retiree boom in qld has brought a lot of work with it. the retiree boom to qld could stop dead in its tracks. it's a possibility. i don't think it ill happen but it's a big possibility.

a lot of house prices in qld remain silly cheap. all the time this situation remains, people will be drawn to beattieland.

what i'm seeing in qld is what i have seen here in spain. i think it's a good comparison. the workers retire. cash in hand to the sun. overcrowding happens. first in, move on. inland mainly but few go back to their starting point.

my village was 'unknown'. then brits turned their home into as small but nice hotel. i even saw my village on tv when in oz in 2005 !

two weeks ago a brit holiday company bought the local and very tranquil rural campsite. no doubt by this time next year we'll be over run with poms in their motorhomes plying the small roads with their 4x4's and golf trolleys.

what i'm saying is this. in a few yrs time, little esk will be overun too. small and quaint as it is, it remains far too attractive not to move to. i love the place but mrs 40 needs her clubs and societies.

so beware.

your fringe may soon become the centre of town.
